As you can imagine, sleepless nights are the order of the day in this generation, one young teen is changing this. Get to know the person behind ‘Somnia,’ an organization with the mission to fight insomnia and educate people on getting a proper sleep. This initiative was born from a deeply personal experience: experiencing firsthand his father’s struggle with chronic insomnia and perceiving the necessity of appropriate interventions. Specifically, a 17-year-old boy designed a free sleep application to help his father; within days, it attracted nearly a thousand users every day. But his contributions did not end with that. After coming to the boarding school and seeing that most of his peers have some sleep problems, or, on the contrary, boasted about not sleeping at all, he realized that awareness is as important as problem-solving. Thus was created Project Somnia, an actual six-week long sleep study. Project Somnia that started as a nonprofit organization has expanded its role and become a strong voice for change. The project engages schools and colleges through workshops and has touched more than 2,000 people in person and additionally, through the twelve Sleep Advocates and twelve related YouTube videos, another 9,000 people. The mission is clear: to promote awareness of younger generations and especially of the managerial and the intellectual class about the necessity of sleep and to provide them with methods for enhancing the quality of their rest. Just as with any other scholar, his accomplishments are not only limited to project Somnia. He is a BlueOcean Entrepreneurship Competition 2024 Top 10 finalist, a regional finalist at the UBER Global Hackathon in South and East Asia. Also, he bagged the Speed Hackathon and Trident Hacks 2023, some of India’s premier hackathons. The most important thing on intervention for insomnia is to understand the effects and the importance of preventive measures. He then intends to bring in technology, awareness, and community to make a large-scale positive change to people’s sleep hygiene.
